What Is
AGBO:
AGBO stands for the Association of Ghanaian
Baptists Overseas. The Association exists for one purpose: To
contribute to Christian theological education in Ghana, West Africa, by
prayerfully and financially supporting the
School of Theology and Missions
(STM) in its pastoral training efforts.
AGBO works very closely with the Ghana Baptist Convention
(GBC) to achieve its goals. AGBO’s administration consists of an Executive
Board (Ghanaian professionals and/or students residing in the USA) and an
Advisory Board (American supporters. At present, all members of our Advisory
Board are Senior Pastors at churches located in Chicago, IL, Pittsburg, PA,
and Silver Spring, MD)
The Vision:
Statistics show that about three-fifths of the world’s
over 2-billion Christians live in Africa, Asia and Latin America, with
Africa having the largest percentage. The implication of this is that Africa
is no longer a "mission field" for Western missionaries but partners in
missions with Western Christian churches. AGBO believes that, while these
statistics are encouraging, there is also a great need for equipping
Christian leaders to lead the growing Church on the African continent and
empowering them to become more mission-focused. AGBO is dedicated to making
a contribution in this area by being an overseas facilitating body for the
advancement of the STM.
The Church In
Ghana:
Lying four degrees above the equator on the coast of West Africa and with a
population of 20 million, the beautiful country of Ghana has a vibrant and
growing Church. The Baptist denomination has been blessed of the Lord to be
a part of this growth.
However, the Ghanaian Church in general, and the Ghana Baptist churches
in particular, have a great need of theological grounding of the churches.
Such grounding could be provided through the preparation of theologically
competent and well-equipped leaders
We
Invite You To Labor With Us:
It is our prayer that the Lord will give you the
vision He has given us—that the Theological
Seminary becomes the center from which trained
leaders will emerge to disciple to maturity in
Christ the bountiful harvest God is granting
Ghana in particular and Africa as a whole.
How can I Contribute?
You will be a blessing to the Lord’s work with your prayers, financial and
equipment support.
How Do I Know How My Financial Contribution
is Being Used?
Every six months, AGBO will send an update of information
to all friends and supporters about the state of the Seminary and how your
contributions are impacting pastoral training in Ghana. Our biannual
newsletter, The AGBO Communicator, will be the official medium for
information dissemination. Most of the information that will be published in
The AGBO Communicator would be obtained directly from the Convention and/or
STM.
